Buffer Overflow vulnerability was discovered in the hashfindi function in hashtbl.c in NASM (Netwide Assembler) version 2.15rc0. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a crafted ASM file (NVD, [Nasm Bugzilla](https://bugzilla.nasm.us/showbug.cgi?id=3392644)).
The vulnerability exists in the hash_findi function at line 157 of hashtbl.c. When processing certain crafted ASM files, a heap-buffer-overflow condition occurs during string length calculation. The issue has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 5.5 MEDIUM with vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H (NVD).
The vulnerability can be exploited to cause a denial of service condition on the affected system. When triggered, it results in a heap-buffer-overflow that can crash the NASM assembler (NVD).
The vulnerability has been fixed in later versions of NASM. Users should upgrade to a version newer than 2.15rc0. The fix was confirmed to be present in nasm-2.15.04rc5-4-g51e23ac7 (Nasm Bugzilla).
