Overview
A vulnerability in the elf::section::as_strtab function of Libelfin v0.3 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (DOS) through a segmentation fault via a crafted ELF file (NVD, Ubuntu).
Technical details
The vulnerability exists in the elf::section::as_strtab function at elf/elf.cc:284. When processing certain malformed ELF files, the function attempts to access an invalid memory address (0x14), resulting in a segmentation fault. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 5.5 (Medium) with vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H (NVD).
Impact
