Overview

A vulnerability in the dwarf::cursor::skip_form function of Libelfin v0.3 was identified as CVE-2020-24827. The vulnerability allows attackers to cause a denial of service (DOS) through a segmentation fault by using a crafted ELF file (NVD).

Technical details

The vulnerability exists in the dwarf::cursor::skip_form function located at dwarf/cursor.cc:181. When processing certain malformed ELF files, the function attempts to perform an invalid read of size 1 at an unmapped memory address, resulting in a segmentation fault. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 5.5 (MEDIUM) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H (NVD, GitHub Issue).

Impact
