CVE-2020-27922: 
macOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2020-27922 is a logic vulnerability discovered in Apple's CoreText component that affects multiple Apple operating systems including macOS Big Sur, iOS 14.2, iPadOS 14.2, watchOS 7.1, and tvOS 14.2. The vulnerability was disclosed and patched in November 2020. The issue was identified by Mickey Jin of Trend Micro and affects the font file processing functionality (Apple Support).

The vulnerability stems from a logic issue in the processing of font files within the CoreText component. The issue was addressed by implementing improved state management to prevent potential exploitation. This vulnerability could be triggered when processing maliciously crafted font files (Apple Support).

If successfully exploited, this vulnerability could lead to arbitrary code execution when processing maliciously crafted font files. This means an attacker could potentially execute unauthorized code on the affected system through a specially crafted font file (Apple Support).

Apple has addressed this vulnerability by implementing improved state management in the affected systems. Users should update to macOS Big Sur 11.1, Security Update 2020-001 Catalina, Security Update 2020-007 Mojave, iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2, watchOS 7.1, or tvOS 14.2 depending on their device (Apple Support).
