CVE-2020-3878: 
macOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

An out-of-bounds read vulnerability (CVE-2020-3878) was discovered in Apple's ImageIO component, affecting multiple Apple operating systems and software products. The vulnerability was discovered by Samuel Groß of Google Project Zero and was addressed in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5, macOS Catalina 10.15.5, tvOS 13.4.5, watchOS 6.2.5, iTunes 12.10.7 for Windows, iCloud for Windows 11.2, and iCloud for Windows 7.19, released in May 2020 (Apple Security).

The vulnerability was identified as an out-of-bounds read issue in the ImageIO component that could be triggered when processing maliciously crafted images. The issue was remediated by implementing improved input validation in the affected systems (Apple Security). The vulnerability could potentially lead to arbitrary code execution when processing malicious image files.

If exploited, the vulnerability could allow processing of a maliciously crafted image to lead to arbitrary code execution on the affected system (Apple Security, Apple macOS).
