CVE-2021-1786: 
macOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2021-1786 is a security vulnerability discovered in Apple's operating systems that was disclosed and patched in January 2021. The vulnerability affects multiple Apple platforms including macOS Big Sur 11.2, macOS Catalina, macOS Mojave, iOS 14.4, iPadOS 14.4, watchOS 7.3, and tvOS 14.4. It was discovered by Csaba Fitzl (@theevilbit) of Offensive Security (Apple Security).

The vulnerability is a logic issue in the Crash Reporter component that was addressed with improved state management. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.5 (MEDIUM) with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows a local user to create or modify system files on affected Apple devices. This could potentially lead to unauthorized file system access and modifications (Apple Security).
