Open redirect vulnerability (CVE-2021-33331) was discovered in the Notifications module of Liferay Portal versions 7.0.0 through 7.3.1, and Liferay DXP 7.0 before fix pack 94, 7.1 before fix pack 19, and 7.2 before fix pack 8. The vulnerability was disclosed on August 3, 2021, and allows remote attackers to redirect users to arbitrary external URLs via the 'redirect' parameter (NVD).

Technical details

The vulnerability exists in the Notifications module where the application fails to properly validate the 'redirect' parameter. When exploiting this vulnerability, an attacker can manipulate the redirect parameter in notification links to redirect users to arbitrary external websites.
