MySQL vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2022-21569 is a vulnerability in MySQL Server that allows low privileged attackers with network access to compromise the MySQL Server through multiple protocols. The vulnerability was disclosed as part of Oracle's July 2022 Critical Patch Update (Oracle CPU).

The vulnerability has a CVSS Base Score of 6.5 (Medium) with the following vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H. This indicates that the vulnerability is network exploitable, requires low attack complexity, needs low privileges, requires no user interaction, and can result in high availability impact (NetApp Advisory).

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to unauthorized takeover of MySQL Server or cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash resulting in a partial or complete denial of service (DoS) of MySQL Server (NetApp Advisory).

The vulnerability has been addressed in MySQL version 8.0.30 for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, and MySQL version 5.7.39 for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Users are strongly recommended to update their MySQL installations to these patched versions (Ubuntu Notice).
