CVE-2022-33113
Java vulnerability analysis and mitigation

Overview

Jfinal CMS v5.1.0 contains a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability that allows attackers to execute arbitrary web scripts or HTML. The vulnerability was discovered in the keyword text field under the publish blog module and was assigned CVE-2022-33113 on June 13, 2022 (CVE MITRE).

Technical details

The vulnerability exists in the keyword field of the publish blog module. When a malicious payload is injected into this field, it gets stored in the system and executes when users view the article content in the foreground. A proof of concept demonstrates that an attacker can trigger the vulnerability using a simple payload like '" onmouseover="alert(document.cookie)' (GitHub Issue).

Impact

When successfully exploited, this vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript code in the context of other users' browsers who view the affected blog posts. This could lead to cookie theft, session hijacking, or other client-side attacks (GitHub Issue).
