CVE-2023-22680: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2023-22680 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Altanic No API Amazon Affiliate WordPress plugin versions 4.2.2 and below. The vulnerability was discovered in January 2023 and requires administrator or higher privileges to exploit (Patchstack).

The vulnerability exists because the plugin does not properly sanitize and escape some of its settings, which could allow high-privilege users such as administrators to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks, even when the unfiltered_html capability is disallowed (for example in multisite setup). The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (Medium) by NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack rates it at 5.9 (Medium) (WPScan, NVD).

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow malicious actors with administrative privileges to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would then be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 4.4.0 of the No API Amazon Affiliate plugin. Site administrators are advised to update to version 4.4.0 or later to remove the vulnerability (Patchstack).
