A Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in MagePeople Team Event Manager and Tickets Selling Plugin for WooCommerce versions 3.8.6 and below. The vulnerability was reported on March 15, 2023, by security researcher Yuki Haruma and was assigned CVE-2023-28422 (Patchstack).
The vulnerability exists because the plugin does not properly sanitize and escape some of its settings, which could allow high-privilege users such as administrators to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks, even when the unfiltered_html capability is disallowed (for example in multisite setup). The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (Medium) by NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assessed it with a score of 5.9 (Medium) (NVD, WPScan).
This vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, such as redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website which will be executed when guests visit the site. However, the security issue has been classified as having a low severity impact and is considered unlikely to be exploited (Patchstack).
The vulnerability has been fixed in version 3.8.7 of the plugin. Users are advised to update to version 3.8.7 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users can enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins as an additional security measure (Patchstack).
