CVE-2023-29099: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in Elegant themes Divi theme versions 4.20.2 and earlier. The vulnerability, identified as CVE-2023-29099, affects users with contributor-level permissions and above. The issue was publicly disclosed on May 9, 2023, and was subsequently fixed in version 4.20.3 (Patchstack, WPScan).

The vulnerability stems from improper validation and escaping of certain parameters in the Divi theme. This security flaw is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation). The vulnerability has received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) from NVD with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assigned it a slightly higher CVSS score of 6.5 (NVD).

The vulnerability allows authenticated users with contributor-level access or higher to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks. This could enable malicious actors to inject harmful scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads that would execute when visitors access the affected website (Patchstack).

Users are advised to update their Divi theme installation to version 4.20.3 or later to remediate this vulnerability. Patchstack has also issued a virtual patch to mitigate this issue by blocking potential attacks until users can update to a fixed version (Patchstack).
