WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2023-29423 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the PI Websolution Cancel order request / Return order / Repeat Order / Reorder for WooCommerce plugin versions 1.3.2 and below. The vulnerability was discovered by Myungju Kim and was disclosed on April 6, 2023 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue (CWE-79) that requires administrator-level privileges to exploit. It has received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (Medium) from NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assessed it with a slightly higher score of 5.9 (Medium) (NVD).

This vulnerability could allow a malicious actor with administrative access to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would then be executed when visitors access the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 1.3.3 of the plugin. Users are advised to update to version 1.3.3 or later to remove the vulnerability. Due to its low severity impact, the risk of exploitation is considered unlikely (Patchstack).
