Chamilo vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Cross Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in Chamilo LMS version 1.11.18. The vulnerability was identified in May 2023 and affects the personal notes function of the application (NVD).

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to execute arbitrary code via a crafted payload to the personal notes function. The severity of this vulnerability has been assessed with a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 5.4 (Medium), with the following vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the user's browser session, potentially leading to unauthorized access to user data, session hijacking, or other malicious activities within the scope of the personal notes function (NVD).
