CVE-2023-36382: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The CVE-2023-36382 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Jeffrey-WP Media Library Categories WordPress plugin versions 2.0.0 and below. The vulnerability was discovered by Jeong Seong Ho and publicly disclosed on July 20, 2023. The vulnerability stems from improper sanitization and escaping of certain plugin settings, which could allow high-privilege users to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 4.8 (MEDIUM) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N according to NVD's assessment. Patchstack has assigned it a slightly higher CVSS score of 5.9 (MEDIUM) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors with administrative privileges to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site, even in environments where unfiltered HTML is typically restricted (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 2.0.1 of the Media Library Categories plugin. Site administrators are advised to update to version 2.0.1 or later to remove the vulnerability (Patchstack).
