CVE-2023-36385: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

An Unauthenticated Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the WordPress PostX – Gutenberg Post Grid Blocks plugin affecting versions 2.9.9 and below. The vulnerability was reported by Le Ngoc Anh on April 20, 2023, and was publicly disclosed on June 23, 2023 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2023-36385 and has received varying CVSS scores from different sources. The National Vulnerability Database (NVD) assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.1 (Medium) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack rated it at 7.1 (High) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) (NVD).

This Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject harmful scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into affected websites. These injected scripts would be executed when visitors access the compromised site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 2.9.10 of the PostX plugin. Users are strongly advised to update to version 2.9.10 or later immediately. For users unable to update immediately, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate this issue by blocking potential attacks (Patchstack).
