A host header injection vulnerability exists in the NPM package @perfood/couch-auth versions <= 0.20.0. By sending a specially crafted host header in the forgot password request, it is possible to send password reset links to users which, once clicked, lead to an attacker-controlled server and thus leak the password reset token (GitHub Research, NVD).
The vulnerability is classified as a host header injection vulnerability (CWE-74) with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.6 CRITICAL (Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H). The issue exists in the forgot password functionality where the host header is not properly validated, allowing an attacker to manipulate the password reset link destination (NVD).
If successfully exploited, this vulnerability allows an attacker to intercept password reset tokens when users click on malicious reset links. With the captured tokens, attackers can reset other users' passwords and potentially take over their accounts (NVD).
Users should upgrade to version 0.20.1 or later of the @perfood/couch-auth package to address this vulnerability (FortiGuard).
