CVE-2023-41687: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The CVE-2023-41687 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Irina Sokolovskaya Goods Catalog WordPress plugin versions 2.4.1 and below. The vulnerability was discovered by Abdi Pranata and publicly disclosed on September 4, 2023 (Patchstack, WPScan).

The vulnerability stems from the plugin's failure to properly validate and escape certain parameters, which could allow users with contributor privileges or higher to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks. The vulnerability has received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) from NVD with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assigned it a score of 6.5 (Medium) with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when visitors access the affected site (Patchstack).

Currently, there is no official fix available for this vulnerability. However, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate the issue by blocking potential attacks until an official fix becomes available (Patchstack).
