CVE-2023-44477: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the Boxy Studio Cooked WordPress plugin, affecting versions 1.7.13 and below. The vulnerability was reported on September 29, 2023, and was assigned CVE-2023-44477. The issue affects users with contributor-level privileges and above (Patchstack).

The vulnerability stems from the plugin's failure to properly validate and escape certain parameters, which could enable users with contributor privileges or higher to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks. The vulnerability has received multiple CVSS severity ratings, with scores ranging from 5.4 to 6.5 (Medium), and is classified under CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) (WPScan, Patchstack).

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 1.7.15.1 of the Cooked plugin. Site administrators are advised to update to this version or later to remove the vulnerability. Additionally, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate this issue by blocking potential attacks until users can update to the fixed version (Patchstack).
