CVE-2023-44984: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the WordPress bbp style pack plugin versions 5.6.7 and below. The vulnerability was reported on September 27, 2023, and was assigned CVE-2023-44984. The issue affects users with Contributor or higher privileges (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) and received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.5 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability allows authenticated users with Contributor or higher privileges to inject malicious scripts into the website (NVD).

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 5.6.8 of the bbp style pack plugin. Users are advised to update to version 5.6.8 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack has also issued a virtual patch to mitigate this issue by blocking any attacks until users update to a fixed version (Patchstack).
