CVE-2023-45628: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was identified in the QROkes QR Twitter Widget WordPress plugin versions 0.2.3 and below. The vulnerability was discovered by researcher Mika and was assigned CVE-2023-45628 on October 10, 2023. This security issue affects WordPress installations using the vulnerable plugin versions (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue, identified under CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation). It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (MEDIUM) from NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assessed it at 6.5 (MEDIUM) with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when visitors access the affected site. The vulnerability requires at least Contributor-level privileges to exploit (Patchstack).

As of the reporting date, no official fix is available for this vulnerability. However, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate the issue by blocking potential attacks until an official fix becomes available. Website administrators are advised to implement the virtual patch or consider alternative security measures (Patchstack).
