Adobe After Effects vulnerability analysis and mitigation

Adobe After Effects versions 24.0.2 (and earlier) and 23.6 (and earlier) are affected by an out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The vulnerability was reported on July 13, 2023, and publicly disclosed on November 15, 2023. This security flaw specifically affects the parsing of MP4 files in Adobe After Effects (ZDI Advisory, Adobe Advisory).

The vulnerability is classified as an out-of-bounds write (CWE-787) issue that occurs during the parsing of MP4 files. The flaw stems from inadequate validation of user-supplied data, which can lead to a write operation past the end of an allocated object. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.8 (High) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H (ZDI Advisory).
