CVE-2023-49150: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in CurrencyRate.Today's Crypto Converter Widget for WordPress, affecting versions up to 1.8.1. The vulnerability was reported on September 29, 2023, by Ngô Thiên An from VNPT-VCI and was officially published on November 28, 2023. This security issue allows authenticated users with Contributor or higher privileges to inject malicious scripts into web pages (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79). It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) from NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assessed it at 6.5 (Medium) with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject harmful scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when visitors access the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 1.8.4 of the Crypto Converter Widget. Users are advised to update to version 1.8.4 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users have the option to enable auto-updates for vulnerable plugins (Patchstack).
