CVE-2023-52125: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the WordPress iFrame Plugin, affecting versions up to and including 4.8. The vulnerability was reported on October 31, 2023, by researcher LVT-tholv2k and was assigned CVE-2023-52125. The issue stems from improper neutralization of input during web page generation in the webvitaly iframe plugin (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation). It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.5 (Medium) from Patchstack with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L, while NIST assigned a slightly lower score of 5.4 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow a malicious actor to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 4.9 of the WordPress iFrame Plugin. Users are advised to update to version 4.9 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users have the option to enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins (Patchstack).
