CVE-2024-10108: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The WPAdverts – Classifieds Plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-10108) that affects all versions up to and including 2.1.6. The vulnerability was discovered in the plugin's adverts_add shortcode functionality and was disclosed on October 30, 2024 (NVD).

The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the adverts_add shortcode functionality. It has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.2 (HIGH) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (Cross-site Scripting) (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page, potentially compromising user data and interactions with the website (NVD).

Users are advised to update their WPAdverts – Classifieds Plugin to a version newer than 2.1.6 to address this vulnerability. The fix has been implemented in subsequent versions of the plugin (WordPress Plugin).
