IrfanView vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2024-11506 is a remote code execution vulnerability discovered in IrfanView software, specifically affecting its DWG file parsing functionality. The vulnerability was disclosed on November 22, 2024, and affects IrfanView version 4.62 x64. This security flaw allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of IrfanView, though user interaction is required in the form of visiting a malicious page or opening a malicious file (ZDI Advisory).

The vulnerability stems from an out-of-bounds read issue within the parsing of DWG files.
