WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The jAlbum Bridge plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-11853) discovered in versions up to and including 2.0.15. The vulnerability was disclosed on December 2, 2024, and affects the plugin's handling of the 'ar' parameter (NVD).

The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping of the 'ar' parameter in the jAlbum Bridge WordPress plugin. The issue has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.4 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (NVD, Wordfence).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page, potentially leading to theft of sensitive information or manipulation of page content (NVD).

The vulnerability has been addressed in version 2.0.16 of the jAlbum Bridge plugin. Users are advised to update their installations to this version or later to protect against this security issue (WordPress Plugin).
