CVE-2024-1510: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The WP Shortcodes Plugin — Shortcodes Ultimate plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-1510) in versions up to and including 7.0.2. The vulnerability exists in the plugin's su_tooltip shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes and tags (NVD).

The vulnerability stems from improper validation and escaping of the su_tooltip shortcode attributes. The issue has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N according to the NVD assessment. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') (NVD).

When exploited, this vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level permissions and above to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses an affected page (NVD).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 7.0.3 of the Shortcodes Ultimate plugin. Users are advised to update to this version or later to mitigate the security risk (WPScan).
