CVE-2024-1810: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Archivist – Custom Archive Templates plugin for WordPress contains a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-1810) via the 'shortcode_attributes' parameter in versions up to and including 1.7.5. The vulnerability was discovered and disclosed on February 23, 2024 (Wordfence).

The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the plugin's handling of the 'shortcode_attributes' parameter. This security flaw has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.1 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') (NVD).

The vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts that execute when users perform specific actions, such as clicking on a malicious link. This could lead to the compromise of user sessions and potential theft of sensitive information.

Users should update to a version newer than 1.7.5 of the Archivist – Custom Archive Templates plugin to address this vulnerability. A patch has been released to fix the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issues (WordPress).
