CVE-2024-37485: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the WordPress bbPress Notify (No-Spam) plugin, affecting versions up to 2.18.3. The vulnerability was reported on June 26, 2024, by security researcher Dimas Maulana and was assigned CVE-2024-37485. This security issue affects the bbPress Notify plugin developed by Vinny Alves (UseStrict Consulting) (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79), specifically a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue. It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.1 (MEDIUM) from NIST with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, while Patchstack assessed it with a higher CVSS score of 7.1 (HIGH) with vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

Users are advised to update to version 2.18.4 or later to resolve the vulnerability. For temporary mitigation, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to block potential attacks until users can update to the fixed version (Patchstack).
