CVE-2024-44059: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was identified in MediaRon LLC's Custom Query Blocks WordPress plugin, tracked as CVE-2024-44059. The vulnerability affects all versions of Custom Query Blocks up to and including version 5.3.1. The issue was discovered by security researcher 4rCanJ0x! and was initially reported on June 21, 2024, with public disclosure occurring on August 29, 2024 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79) issue. It received a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.5 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L according to Patchstack's assessment, while NIST assigned a slightly lower CVSS score of 5.4 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N (NVD).

The vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts are then executed when visitors access the affected site. The vulnerability requires at least Contributor-level privileges to exploit (Patchstack).

As of the latest reports, no official fix is available for this vulnerability. The issue affects versions up to and including 5.3.1, but no patched version has been released (Patchstack).
