CVE-2024-51589: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in wpcirqle Bigmart Elements WordPress plugin affecting versions through 1.0.3. The vulnerability was identified as CVE-2024-51589 and was reported on October 12, 2024, with public disclosure occurring on October 31, 2024. The vulnerability allows DOM-Based XSS attacks in the Bigmart Elements plugin (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (MEDIUM) by NIST with a vector string of CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. Patchstack has assigned it a slightly higher CVSS score of 6.5 (MEDIUM) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) (NVD).

The vulnerability could allow a malicious actor to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site. The attack requires contributor-level privileges to exploit (Patchstack).

Currently, there is no official fix available for this vulnerability. The issue affects versions up to and including 1.0.3 of the Bigmart Elements plugin (Patchstack).
