CVE-2024-53743: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was identified in FlickDevs Countdown Timer for Elementor plugin, tracked as CVE-2024-53743. The vulnerability affects versions through 1.3.6 of the plugin and was discovered by João Pedro Soares de Alcântara. The issue was reported on September 25, 2024, and publicly disclosed on November 28, 2024 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79) issue. It received a CVSS v3.1 score of 6.5 (Medium) with the following vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability requires contributor-level privileges or higher to exploit (NVD, Patchstack).

This vulnerability could allow a malicious actor to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 1.3.7 of the Countdown Timer for Elementor plugin. Users are advised to update to version 1.3.7 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users have the option to enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins (Patchstack).
