The ScrollTo Top plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Cross-Site Request Forgery to Arbitrary File Upload in versions up to, and including, 1.2.2. This vulnerability was disclosed on July 9, 2024 and has been assigned CVE-2024-6320 (NVD).

The vulnerability exists due to missing nonce validation and missing file type validation in the 'options_page' function. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 8.8 HIGH with vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H (Wordfence).

Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to upload arbitrary files on the affected site's server, which may enable remote code execution if they can trick a site administrator into performing an action such as clicking on a link (NVD).

Mitigation and workarounds

Site administrators should update the ScrollTo Top plugin to a version newer than 1.2.2 if available. Until an update is available, consider disabling the plugin if it's not critical to site operations (NVD).
