WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Element Pack Elementor Addons (Header Footer, Template Library, Dynamic Grid & Carousel, Remote Arrows) plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2024-9657) via the 'tooltip' parameter in versions up to and including 5.10.2. The vulnerability was discovered and reported by Wordfence, with the initial disclosure made on November 5, 2024 (NVD).

The vulnerability stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the tooltip parameter. It has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 5.4 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (NVD).

This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page, potentially leading to unauthorized data access, session hijacking, or other malicious activities (NVD).

Users are advised to update to version 5.10.3 or later of the Element Pack Elementor Addons plugin, which contains fixes for this vulnerability (NVD).
