NixOS vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2025-22406 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability affecting Android systems. The vulnerability was disclosed on March 1, 2025, as part of the Android Security Bulletin. It affects Android systems prior to the March 5, 2025 security patch level (Android Bulletin).

The vulnerability exists in the Android System component and is classified as a highly-rated local privilege escalation vulnerability. The issue stems from memory-unsafe logging in the Bluetooth stack, specifically in the bnep_utils.cc file, where log statements may use structures that could have been freed in exceptional cases, leading to use-after-free conditions (Android Source).

The vulnerability allows for local privilege escalation with no additional execution privileges needed. If successfully exploited, an attacker could elevate their privileges on the affected Android system, potentially gaining unauthorized access to system resources and sensitive data (CIS Advisory).

Google has released security patches to address this vulnerability in the March 2025 Android Security Bulletin. Users are advised to update their Android devices to a security patch level of 2025-03-05 or later to mitigate this vulnerability (Android Bulletin).
