CVE-2025-22595: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Mailing Group Listserv WordPress plugin contains a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability, identified as CVE-2025-22595. The vulnerability affects versions up to and including 2.0.9 of the plugin, discovered by researcher Le Ngoc Anh and publicly disclosed on January 7, 2025. The issue stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the plugin's web page generation functionality (WPScan, Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) and has received varying CVSS scores from different sources. Patchstack assigned it a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 7.1 (HIGH) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L, while other sources rated it at 6.1 (MEDIUM). The vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts that execute when users perform specific actions, such as clicking on a malicious link (NVD, Patchstack).

The vulnerability enables attackers to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into affected websites. These injected scripts are executed when visitors access the compromised pages, potentially leading to unauthorized data access, session hijacking, or other malicious activities (Patchstack).

Currently, there is no official fix available for this vulnerability. However, Patchstack has issued a virtual patch to mitigate the issue by blocking potential attacks until an official fix becomes available. Website administrators are advised to implement the virtual patch immediately to protect their sites (Patchstack).
