CVE-2025-24719: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was identified in the WordPress Widget Countdown plugin, tracked as CVE-2025-24719. The vulnerability affects Widget Countdown versions through 2.7.1 and was discovered by Peter Thaleikis. The issue was publicly disclosed on January 24, 2025 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79). It received a CVSS v3.1 score of 6.5 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability requires contributor-level privileges or higher to exploit (NVD, Patchstack).

This vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when visitors access the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been patched in version 2.7.2 of the Widget Countdown plugin. Users are advised to update to version 2.7.2 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users have the option to enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins (Patchstack).
