WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A DOM-Based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been identified in SecuPress SecuPress Free plugin versions through 2.2.5.3. The vulnerability was discovered and reported on January 20, 2025, and publicly disclosed on March 27, 2025. This security issue affects the WordPress plugin SecuPress Free, which is a security-focused plugin for WordPress websites (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation, specifically a DOM-Based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue. It has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 6.5 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability is tracked under CWE-79 (NVD).

This vulnerability could allow a malicious actor to inject malicious scripts, such as redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website which will be executed when guests visit the site. The vulnerability has been patched in version 2.2.5.4 of the SecuPress Free plugin. Users are advised to update to version 2.2.5.4 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users can enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins (Patchstack).
