CVE-2025-39576: 
WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

A Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in Greg Winiarski's WPAdverts WordPress plugin, identified as CVE-2025-39576. The vulnerability affects versions through 2.2.1 and was disclosed on April 16, 2025. The security issue was initially reported by researcher muhammad yudha on March 18, 2025 (Patchstack).

The vulnerability is classified as an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (CWE-79) issue. It received a CVSS v3.1 score of 6.5 (Medium) with the vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L. The vulnerability requires Contributor or higher privilege level for exploitation (Wordfence, Patchstack).

The vulnerability could allow malicious actors to inject malicious scripts, including redirects, advertisements, and other HTML payloads into the website. These injected scripts would be executed when guests visit the affected site (Patchstack).

The vulnerability has been fixed in version 2.2.2 of the WPAdverts plugin. Users are advised to update to version 2.2.2 or later to remove the vulnerability. Patchstack users have the option to enable auto-update for vulnerable plugins (Patchstack).
