WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Subpage List plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting all versions up to and including 1.3.3. The vulnerability was discovered and disclosed on May 2, 2025, and has been assigned CVE-2025-4168. The issue exists in the plugin's 'subpages' shortcode functionality due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes (NVD, Wiz).

The vulnerability is classified as a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue, identified as CWE-80 (Improper Neutralization of Script-Related HTML Tags in a Web Page).
