WordPress vulnerability analysis and mitigation

The Fintelligence Calculator plugin for WordPress contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CVE-2025-9859) discovered on October 3, 2025. This vulnerability affects all versions up to and including 1.0.3 of the plugin. The issue stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the plugin's 'fintelligence-calculator' shortcode (NVD).

The vulnerability is classified as CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.4 (Medium) and vector string CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N. The issue specifically relates to the plugin's shortcode functionality where user input is not properly sanitized before being processed and displayed (Wordfence).

The vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These malicious scripts will execute whenever a user accesses the compromised page, potentially leading to data theft, session hijacking, or other client-side attacks (NVD).

Users should update their Fintelligence Calculator plugin to a version newer than 1.0.3 once available. Until then, it is recommended to restrict access to the plugin's shortcode functionality to trusted users only (Wordfence).
