A high-severity Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability, identified as CVE-2024-21689, was discovered in Atlassian's Bamboo Data Center and Server products. The vulnerability was introduced in versions 9.1.0 through 9.6.0, and received a CVSS score of 7.6. This security flaw was identified through Atlassian's Bug Bounty program and officially disclosed on August 20, 2024 (Atlassian Advisory, NVD).

The vulnerability allows an authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code within the Bamboo environment. The CVSS vector string (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H) indicates that exploitation requires network access, high attack complexity, high privileges, and user interaction. The exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to severe consequences, particularly given Bamboo's role in continuous integration and deployment processes. Atlassian has released patches and strongly recommends users upgrade their Bamboo Data Center and Server installations to the fixed versions. For Bamboo Data Center and Server 9.2, users should upgrade to version 9.2.17 or later, and for version 9.6, upgrade to version 9.6.5 or later. If users are unable to upgrade to the latest version, they should ensure they update to one of these specified supported fixed versions (Atlassian Advisory).
