CVE-2019-20492: 
cPanel vulnerability analysis and mitigation

cPanel before 82.0.18 contained a critical authentication bypass vulnerability (CVE-2019-20492) due to incorrect parsing of the password file format. This vulnerability was discovered and disclosed in early 2020, affecting cPanel installations prior to version 82.0.18 (Trustwave Update).

The vulnerability stems from a fundamental flaw in how cPanel parsed and processed password file formats, which could allow authentication bypass. The issue was tracked as SEC-516 internally by cPanel (CVE Mitre).

The vulnerability could allow attackers to bypass authentication mechanisms, potentially gaining unauthorized access to cPanel accounts and their associated resources (Trustwave Update).

The vulnerability was patched in cPanel version 82.0.18. System administrators are advised to upgrade to this version or later to protect against this authentication bypass vulnerability (Trustwave Update).
