CVE-2019-20810 affects the go7007_snd_init function in drivers/media/usb/go7007/snd-go7007.c in the Linux kernel before version 5.6. The vulnerability was discovered by Chuhong Yuan and involves a memory leak caused by not calling snd_card_free for a failure path, also known as CID-9453264ef586 (Kernel Git).

The vulnerability exists in the go7007_snd_init function where it fails to properly deallocate memory by not calling snd_card_free in an error path. This oversight results in a memory leak condition. The issue has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 5.5 (MEDIUM) with vector CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H (NVD).

A physically proximate attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a denial of service through memory exhaustion. The impact is limited to availability with no direct impact on confidentiality or integrity of the system (Ubuntu Security).

The vulnerability requires local access and low privileges to exploit. There are no known public exploits targeting this vulnerability in the wild.

The vulnerability was fixed in Linux kernel version 5.6 by adding the missing snd_card_free call in the error path. Multiple Linux distributions have released security updates to address this issue, including Ubuntu, Debian, and openSUSE (Debian LTS, Ubuntu Security).
