CVE-2020-1130: 
vulnerability analysis and mitigation

An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists when the Diagnostics Hub Standard Collector improperly handles data operations. This vulnerability, identified as CVE-2020-1130, was discovered in Microsoft Visual Studio and Windows systems. The vulnerability affects multiple versions of Visual Studio including Visual Studio 2015 Update 3, Visual Studio 2017, and Visual Studio 2019, as well as various Windows operating systems (NVD).

The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.8 (HIGH) by NVD and 6.6 (MEDIUM) by Microsoft. The vulnerability exists due to improper handling of data operations by the Diagnostics Hub Standard Collector. The vulnerability can be exploited by running a specially crafted application on the victim system. The attack requires local access and low privileges to execute (NVD).

Microsoft has released security updates to address this vulnerability. The update corrects how the Diagnostics Hub Standard Collector handles data operations. Users are advised to install the appropriate patches for their affected systems, including updates for Visual Studio 2015 Update 3, Visual Studio 2017, and Visual Studio 2019 (Microsoft Support).
