MySQL vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2020-14793 is a vulnerability in the MySQL Server product of Oracle MySQL, specifically affecting the Server: Optimizer component. The vulnerability affects MySQL versions 5.6.49 and prior, 5.7.31 and prior, and 8.0.21 and prior. It was disclosed in October 2020 as part of Oracle's Critical Patch Update (Oracle CPU).

This is an easily exploitable vulnerability that allows high-privileged attackers with network access via multiple protocols to compromise MySQL Server. Users should upgrade to MySQL versions after 5.6.49, 5.7.31, or 8.0.21 depending on their installation branch (Oracle CPU). Various Linux distributions have also released updated packages to address this vulnerability (Gentoo Advisory).
