CVE-2020-36650
JavaScript vulnerability analysis and mitigation

Overview

A critical vulnerability was discovered in IonicaBizau node-gry up to version 5.x. The vulnerability affects the command execution functionality in the package, which could allow command injection attacks (GitHub PR, NVD).

Technical details

The vulnerability stems from improper handling of command execution in the git operations. The package was using string concatenation for command execution instead of proper argument arrays, which could allow command injection attacks. This was fixed by changing the implementation to use arrays for command arguments instead of string concatenation (GitHub Commit).

Impact

A successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands through maliciously crafted input to the git operations handled by the package (NVD).

Mitigation and workarounds

The vulnerability was fixed in version 6.0.0 of the package. Users are advised to upgrade to this version or later to address the security issue (GitHub Release).
