Technical details

The vulnerability occurs in the mbfl_filt_conv_big5_wchar function when processing certain mbstring functions to convert multibyte encodings. When supplied with specific data, the function can read past the allocated buffer, leading to a global buffer overflow condition. The vulnerability has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 6.5 (MEDIUM) with vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:L (NETAPP).
