CVE-2020-7979: 
GitLab vulnerability analysis and mitigation

CVE-2020-7979 affects GitLab Enterprise Edition (EE) versions 8.9 and later through 12.7.2. The vulnerability was discovered in January 2020 and involves private project names being exposed through GraphQL queries under certain conditions (GitLab Release).

The vulnerability allowed particularly crafted GraphQL queries to expose private project names in GitLab EE. The issue was identified and assigned CVE-2020-7979, affecting GitLab EE versions 12.0 and later (GitLab Release).

The vulnerability could result in unauthorized disclosure of private project names, potentially exposing sensitive information about confidential projects within GitLab Enterprise Edition installations (GitLab Release).

The vulnerability could be exploited through specifically crafted GraphQL queries, allowing attackers to potentially access private project names that should have been restricted (GitLab Release).

The vulnerability was patched in GitLab security release versions 12.7.4, 12.6.6, and 12.5.9. GitLab strongly recommended that all installations running affected versions be upgraded to the latest version as soon as possible (GitLab Release).

The vulnerability was responsibly reported by security researcher @ashish_r_padelkar, who received acknowledgment from GitLab for their contribution to platform security (GitLab Release).
